Black Feather Farm Shipping
Currently Black Feather Farm only ships hatching eggs to the continental United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Any live birds (such as chicks, pullets, cocks, etc…) must be picked up from the farm or a meet-up can be arranged if you are within the farm’s traveling distance.
If you have questions regarding shipping hatching eggs, picking up live birds, or arranging a meeting to acquire birds, please contact the farm.
Hatching Egg Shipping
Shipping poultry hatching eggs is very risky but has been done successfully. Black Feather Farm does offer the option of shipping hatching eggs and takes as many precautions as possible to ensure safe shipment of the eggs.
In order to be shipped, hatching eggs are collected and wrapped in plastic wrap to prevent evaporation and to provide additional cushioning. The eggs are placed in egg cartons and the cartons are securely closed. The cartons are then placed in a cardboard shipping box with lots of padding. Hatching eggs are double boxed and double padded. Secure packaging tape is used to fasten both the inner box and the outer box closed.
The box is labeled ‘Fragile’ and ‘This Side Up’ to encourage the proper handling of the package.
Black Feather Farm uses the FedEx service to ship hatching eggs. Currently there are two rates to choose from:
- FedEx standard overnight: average price ranges between $50-$110, but is subject to change
- FedEx 2 day A.M.: average prices ranges between $35-$80, but is subject to change
The cost of shipping is determine and confirmed when you place your hatching eggs order.
Note: Despite all the precautions taken, this does NOT ensure your hatching eggs will arrive safely and without damage. The Farm is not liable for eggs that arrive broken. Black Feather Farm will also not be held liable for missing packages, packages delivered to the wrong address, or packages delivered late. A full order refund for these situations is only possible if Black Feather Farm is able to get a shipping reimbursement from the shipping agency.
Hatching eggs may arrive with displaced air cells and all shipped eggs should be allowed to settle for 24 hours before being placed in an incubator. Naturally, shipped eggs tend to have a lower hatch rate.
Ordering Policy
Note: Orders are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. The availability of a certain product may vary depending on how many orders are being filled at the time. Please see the Ordering in Advance section below for more information.
Currently, the Black Feather Farm uses this ordering system for processing poultry orders:
Use the Poultry Order Form to place your order. You will specify your name, email, address, the poultry you want to order, and any comments or questions regarding your order.
Once the Farm has received your order, you will get a confirmation email that outlines the next steps of paying for your order. Currently there are three payment options:
- cash (recommended for farm pick-up)
- check (for mail orders only and the check will be cashed before your order is shipped)
- PayPal
Depending on your order and your location will determine the method of payment recommended to you in the confirmation email.
Once payment has been received, you will be sent or given a receipt and your order will be shipped or prepared for farm pickup.
Ordering in Advance
Due to the nature of breeding and hatching chickens there may be a delay between the time you place your order and when your order will be filled. Orders that can not be filled right away will be put on a waiting list. You will be notified at the time of your order placement whether you are put on a waiting list or not.
Payment in advance is not required immediately if you are placed on a waiting list. However, it is recommended for the convenience of the Farm and to prevent any backing-out once your order has been filled.
Spring is a very busy time for orders, so please expect some delays if you are ordering in the spring.
Farm Pick-up
Orders placed for a farm pick-up will be arranged via email. When you place your order, Alexa will get in tough with you for when your order will be fulfilled and ready for pick-up.
Since the Farm is my home too, pick-up days and times may vary. I try my best to arrange for times that work best for both the customer and myself.
Payment can be completed prior to the pick-up or at the time of the pick-up.
Arranged Meeting
Some orders can be fulfilled upon an arranged meeting. When you place your order, you can inquire about picking up your order via an arranged meeting. Because the Farm is a small business, extended travel is limited and sometimes impossible, so please understand that arranged meeting cannot always be conducted.
Meetings will be arranged and confirmed via email upon placement of your order. Payment is required in advance.
